Our East Sussex Community Information Service (ESCIS) directory gives information about how each childcare provider supports children with additional needs.

Additional support in childcare

Childcare providers are required by the Equality Act 2010 to make ‘reasonable adjustments’ including ‘auxiliary aids and services’ to ensure that disabled children are not disadvantaged.

Early years providers and schools may use their Pupil Premium funding to support additional activities for children with special needs, such as breakfast or after school clubs.

Childcare providers who offer education to children under five (nurseries and some childminders) must use their ‘best endeavours' to arrange special educational support that a child needs. They can get advice and additional funding.
