Apply to move from infant to junior school (7+)

Parent Portal unavailable

Please be aware that the Parent Portal will be unavailable between 11am to 2pm on Tuesday 12 December 2023.

If your child is in Year 2 at an infant school, you’ll need to apply for a place at a junior school for September.

You can name a maximum of 3 different schools. Listing more than one:

  • won’t affect your first preference – we always offer the highest we can
  • will increase your chances of an offer at a school you prefer.

You can only name junior schools on your application.

See how places are offered to find out what is and isn’t taken into account.

See the East Sussex Local Offer website for admissions for children with special educational needs.

Some parents will want to request a place at a primary school in Year 3 instead of a junior school. You can only apply for this after 1 June 2024 as an in-year application.

We recommend you also apply for a junior school in line with the key dates below. This will mean your child has a confirmed place in September in case your preferred primary school is full.

If your child is being taught out of their chronological year group you will not be able to apply online. Please use the paper form to apply or contact the Admissions and Transport Team.

Key dates

  • Apply online now
  • Closing date for applications: 15 January 2024

What happens if you apply late

If you apply after the closing date, the request will be dealt with after all on-time applications have been processed. This may affect your chances of securing a preferred school.

If you have moved into the area after the closing date you should apply for a school place as soon as possible. If you send us evidence of your house move at the same time we may be able to consider this application as being on-time. This could happen as long we receive your form and evidence by 15 March 2024.

If you apply after this date there is likely to be a delay in our response.

See Late applications.

When you'll find out

  • National offer day: 16 April 2024
  • Appeal hearings: June and July 2024
  • Induction days: summer term 2024
