Temporary closure

We are pleased to say that a target date has been set for the reopening of Pevensey Bay Library which has been closed since January 2015 due to flooding.

We plan to reopen the library on Tuesday 30 August.

A survey into the cause of water damage has recommended some repairs but also states further investigation of drainage around the building will be needed, which could take several more months. These investigations will attempt to identify any works which may be required to prevent flooding in the long-term.

However, in the meantime we will press ahead with internal repairs to ensure the building can reopen as soon as possible.

St Wilfrid’s Church Hall, in Eastbourne Road, is offering a small range of popular books for residents to borrow.

We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused by the continued closure and thank the residents of Pevensey Bay for their patience. We are working hard to reopen the library and will provide further updates as soon as we can. Pevensey Bay Library had to shut its doors due to extensive flooding in January 2015. We are experiencing significant difficulty in reopening the library. Investigative surveys were completed in March 2016. We are now working to clarify findings and calculate costs, which will enable us to know what needs to be done, how long it will take to do, and when the library is likely to reopen.

Pub is the Hub

A book exchange is also available at the Royal Oak and Castle, in Church Lane, with a range of ex-library books for anyone to borrow or read at the pub.
