Neighbourhood planning
Neighbourhood planning is a right for communities introduced through the Localism Act 2011. It enables parish and town council's, with their communities, to shape development in their areas. This is done through the production of,
- a neighbourhood plan
- a neighbourhood development order or a community right to build
Once adopted, a neighbourhood plan becomes part of the development plan for the area. The policies contained within them are used in the determination of planning applications. Please see the department for local government neighbourhood planning website for planning guidance.

Strategic planning in Local Plans
Under the the Localism Act 2011 and the National Planning Policy Framework local planning authorities and county councils are under a duty to cooperate which means we work closely with district and borough councils on infrastructure planning. This ensures a coordinated approach to the delivery of infrastructure and services.
Infrastructure requirements are set out in district and borough Infrastructure Delivery Plans. These can be found on the district and borough council's own websites.
