Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)

The East Sussex Pension Fund is part of the national Local Government Pension Scheme and offers a valuable package of benefits for members and their dependants.

5 - Freedom to choose when to take your pension - Your pension is usually payable from your Normal Pension Age which is linked to your State Pension age. You can choose to retire and take your pension at any time between age 55 (age 57 from 6 April 2028) and age 75.

The East Sussex Pension Fund is run by East Sussex County Council. This means that East Sussex Council is the "administering authority" in the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) Regulations.

The scheme provides retirement benefits for County Council employees, but members also include employees of Brighton & Hove City Council, the 5 borough and district councils, universities, colleges and public authorities.

The scheme is designed to provide financial security for you and your dependants, both while you are working and during your retirement.

Employers in the East Sussex Pension Fund

The East Sussex Pension Fund is administered by East Sussex County Council, but other councils and public authorities can join the scheme. All employers, together with their contribution rates, are listed in the Participating employers [132.1 KB] [pdf] document.

Discretions

This is the power given by the LGPS to enable an employer or/and the pension fund administering authority to choose how they will apply the scheme in respect of certain provisions.

Teachers’ Pension Fund

Teachers have their own pension arrangements through the Teachers’ Pension Fund.
